Students from Belt High School presented their speeches for the VFW’s Voice of Democracy contest on October 5th. The topic for 2022 – 2023 is ‘Why is the Veteran Important?’ Nineteen speeches were given, and many were very impressive. Many thanks to Belt High School teacher Karl Koontz for involving his students in the contest. First Place Winner: Taryn Lodge; Second Place Winner: Aubrey Johnson; Third Place Winner: Hailey Gliko. The top two speeches advance to the District level within the VFW. The top three speeches win a certificate and cash prize from VFW Post 4669. Judging the contest was Sr. Post Vice Commander Dennis Burns, Post Adjutant Shannon Wilson, and new post member Patricia Vigil. Assisting the judges was Annie Porter.
